At the request of the Ontario government, this year's SET will take place 0800-1600 hrs 16 Oct.

The exercise, Operation DARK SKIES, is a live exercise conducted by Niagara Region Emergency Management. It is an assessment of the NREM plan for managing the arrival of up to 1 million visitors to observe a total eclipse on 8 April, 2024.

The NR ACS and Civilian Emergency Response Team (CERT) are fully engaged. EMO is assessing its role and responsibility to support NREM and the Eastern Ontario municipalities which also lie in the path of the eclipse.
EMO has engaged RAC ACS support -- if there is a wildfire situation next year anywhere near like last April there will simply not be enough commercial telecommunication resources to support the anticipated visitors and first responders.
