News - Barrie Hamfest Field Test

Today the Barrie Amateur Radio Club held it's annual hamfest. We used this opportunity to test the Weather Station and APRS beaconing.

Using a Baofeng UV-5R we were able to reach VE3LSR which is about 28km away and VA3ZAP which is approximately 70km away. The radio was set to 1 Watt so good performance for so little power.

The Acurite 5n1 is mounted on a 8ft painters pole, and the APRS antenna is mounted on top. The antenna is a slim jim jpole make from twin lead. The grey pipe it's mounted in is electrical conduit with a paint roller wood handle in the bottom to attach to the painters pole.

The system worked well, was easy to setup and take down.
